It may be drawing to an end but summer is still well and truly with us. Whether you are taking your kids out for the last few times before the school starts again or if you are going away there a number of simple ways to keep yourself cool and calm during this time. In a lot of cases, August may actually be the hottest time with the sun blaring down on us we have to ensure we can beat its radiating heat.

First and foremost during any spell of hot weather you need to keep yourself adequately hydrated with enough water and electrolytes. During the summer time you will sweat in abundance and this means a loss of a lot of water and key salts. You need to keep your water and salt levels high to avoid losing energy and becoming ill. In most cases it is recommended that you drink up to 2 liters of water a day, but if you are out and active during the summer months you need to raise that to at least 3 liters and more if needed. On top of that there are energy drinks which offer the keys salts you lose during sweating which will help maintain your cells meaning you’ll be seeing more energy and less headaches and the like due to the heat.

Secondly you need to realize although it may be very nice and warm outside sometimes it is better and wiser to cool off inside for a while. With air conditioning units in many houses and shops when you are enjoying the summer it is advised to slip into a shop or two to get cool again. Not only will it help you physically but it will also keep your brain sharp and focused because as we all know, the heat can often make us do silly things. Whatever sort of cooling system you have in your home, you should check to see if it needs a tune up or any fixing to be sure that when you are inside you are at the most comfortable temperature. You do not want your air conditioning unit breaking down on a hot day – I can assure you of that.

This may be overlooked by some people but wearing sun screen is vital during summer. The sun emits UVA and UVB radiation which although produces melanin which gives our skin a brown kissed look it actually also damages our skin irreparably. The damaging UVB radiation can cause many types of skin cancer and other skin conditions so it is essential you are protected from these using a sun screen. Not only will it protect your skin but it will also aid in cooling down and keeping you comfortable. Along with the protection another good method is by covering up slightly more. This does not have to mean you can’t look trendy! The fashion is changing all the time and currently floppy hats are in for the ladies and a smart chino and shirt combination is a very popular hit with the men. Remember to keep smart and safe in the sun – always put on some sun screen before you leave the house for the day and keep a bottle on you if possible.

As you can see these are just a few ways for you to keep cool and collected over the remaining summer we have left. They are simple yet effective tips to keep you safe from the sun while still allowing you to enjoy the beautiful weather we have to look forward to.
